[Patch]Update 1.2 for Untamed: Life of a Cougar is now Available

Hello Everyone,

After receiving feedback on some issues present in Untamed: Life of a Cougar, a new update is now ready to address most of these issues

Weird Ultra Jump

The weird jump the player makes after killing an eagle has been fixed.

Continuation After Cub Death

In the previous version, if your cub died, you had to choose to restart the game, or reload it. In the update 1.2, After all your cubs are dead, you’ll be notified by the game. You can continue playing (you’ll have to find a mate to have cubs again) or you can restart from the pause menu or re-load the game from the pause menu. This is in keeping with creating a wildlife simulation experience, and I thank the players who pointed this out for that.

Pestering Mate

The Male Cougars (Mate) don’t follow you closely as before, instead they move around and give you space to perform other activities instead of mating.

UI Elements

Some UI elements which include the health-bars have been improved to give a better feeling to the overall feel of the game.

Improved Night Vision (Cougar Vision)

The Night Vision (Cougar Vision) has been improved. Previously everything was hazy and green, but now with saturation down a bit and the color improved, the cougar vision looks better, and scents can easily be seen from a distance.

Improved Map

This is on of the biggest improvements in the update 1.2, the map looks much smother, the icons changed, the map key gives more information, and everything looks cleaner and better.

Several bugs have been fixed including the gameplay stats, more improvements and fixes will be made as we all strive to make Untamed: Life of a Cougar reach its full potential.

I’ll like to say a big thank you to everyone who has contributed to Untamed: Life of a Cougar in some or another, your support means a lot. If you enjoy Untamed, I’ll be happy if you can post a review on the steam page for other people to see.

You can get the game on Steam or the OCCA Studios website

Have fun and Happy Hunting,

Patch 1.1 now available for Untamed: Life of a Cougar

After receiving more feedback from the community, a second patch is now available. This patch fixes some gameplay issues, especially the ones that arose from the update 1.0.
The major issues that were fixed are;

Overshooting a Target when attacking (Attack Mode)

Previously when attacking using the target mode, the cougar has the tendency to pounce away from the target. This issue has been fixed (there are still a lot of improvements to be added to the attacking and target mode).

Remove Strafing/Dodging from normal mode

The strafing/dodge function has been removed from the player mode, I removed it because it was unnecessary in hunting, and strafing is needed mainly while fighting.
So no more strafing in normal mode.

Eagle Screech

The screeching sound of the eagle has been tweaked, it is now a bit softer on the ears.

Easy Mode Balancing

After getting complaints that the game is hard even in easy mode, I tweaked the cougars damage a bit. You don’t die as fast as before so basically it is a bit easier.
I’ll like to know the opinion of the community on this modification.

Save/Load Button in the Pause Menu

A bug was discovered that hid the save and load buttons in the pause menu. If you quit the tutorial and load the game directly from the menu, this problem will occur. This has been fixed.
I’ve gotten reports of the disappearance of the save button. I’ll look into this and try my best to recreate the problem so that it can be solved.

Giant Arrows (Pointers)

There was a review where a user complained about the arrows. The issue has been fixed. I’ll also like to use this opportunity to ask players to please send reports such as this to the discussions thread where it will be dealt with immediately rather than putting it in as a negative review, because with new updates, the bad review doesn’t change and other potential players will still think these issues are there.
But nonetheless, your thoughts and feedback are highly valued and I’ll love to hear them.

Mate spawning at the wrong time

After the update 1.0 , I got reports that the mates where spawning even after having cubs. I was finally able to recreate the problem, and I’m happy to inform you that it has
been fixed.

Mission Den Icon not showing up on the Map

The issue of the blue arrow icon not showing up on the map has been fixed.

Mechanism for Choosing the Mission den

With the scale of the map, and the distance between the dens, players often find it too daunting to go to the randomly chosen den. I’ve changed the mechanism so that a player does not get a den at the opposite end of the map, and the distance of the mission den will be at a convenient distance, while still remaining challenging for players.

Bug in the Hints

The hint (text at the bottom of the screen) had a bug that always reminded players to feed their cubs. This has been fixed. Now as soon as the cubs are fed, the hint
will go away.

Other background fixes have been made to the game. The next update will bring a lot of graphical changes especially the map. After the next update 1.2, I’ll begin work on
the major update (currently the Choice 1 is ahead).

Please If you notice any bug, or any feature that you don’t like, don’t hesitate to let me know by posting it in the Bug Report/Review Page or sending a mail to occastudio@gmail.com .
For everyone who has supported me so far I’ll like to say a big thank you. I’ll be working hard to make sure Untamed: Life of a Cougar lives up to its potential.

It is Official, Untamed: Life of a Cougar is now Available for Download

gameIcon

I’m happy to announce that Untamed: Life of a Cougar is available for purchase on STEAM and the OCCA STUDIOS website.  An IndieGameStand version will be coming soon as well as a version on Humble Store. As the saying goes, developing a game does not end with releasing it. That is why I intend to constantly Update and Improve Untamed: Life of a Cougar with regular updates.
For now here are some confirmed improvements that will be added, more unannounced ones will be implemented, but these are some public improvements.

New Characters

Three new NPCs will be added to the forest, they are the fearsome alligator and the docile but skittish stork (for those tired of having cubs 😉 ), also a mountain goat will join the line-up to make things interesting.

Weather System

A weather system will be added, this means there will be rainfall as well as clear skies.

New Mission

A new mission will be added, to be precise it will be a Wildfire mission. more details on how it will be implemented will be revealed as time goes on.

Take Down Animations

Everybody enjoys seeing a big cat taking down a prey, this will be simulated in Untamed. you will get to have the chance to execute your enemies and bring down large prey in unique style.

More Improvements will be added as time goes on, for those who started out with me since the early beta versions, they know that all these I posted improvements will be implemented.

Thank you for reading, and I hope you guys have fun with Untamed:Life of a Cougar.

Untamed: Life of a Cougar release date shifted to 26 August 2015

Hello Everyone,

Today, Untamed: Life of a Cougar got submitted to steam 🙂 , but this means there will have to be a review process. The amount of time it will take to review the game is unknown, so while I have a possible release date of 26th, it may be longer than that. I also have to delay the release of the game on the website so that both the steam version and the non-steam version are available at the same time.

But on the bright side, this means I will have enough time to get all the launch materials in order, including arranging the website, setting up the store, and any other thing that is needed before launching a game (Still a rookie).

Once again I’m sorry for the delay in releasing Untamed: Life of a Cougar, but I believe that in the end, the game will be worth the wait.

Over the weekend, I will post some gameplay videos. These videos will show the current state of Untamed, but as usual, I will continue updating and improving the game. 🙂

Untamed Life of a Cougar Release Date

Hello everyone, Its been a long time since the development of Untamed:Life of a Cougar started, and I’m happy to announce that the release date has been set.

Untamed:Life of a Cougar will be released finally on the 21st of August 2015. It will be available on multiple sites for digital purchase including Steam. The purchase price will be revealed at a later date but no need to fret, it will be affordable.

announcement screenjp

Even after the final release, I’ll continue updating and supporting Untamed:Life of a Cougar (at an even faster rate). I have a lot of plans for Untamed:Life of a Cougar, including some awesome DLCs and Extensions, new missions and new characters with unique behaviors.

I believe that if we all work together as a community (Updating and giving support, Purchasing and Giving feedback while spreading the word about Untamed:Life of a Cougar), we can make Untamed reach its full potential.

Improvements and Characters

These are some of the improvements that have been added during the development process;

Marking Territory

I wanted to show screenshots for this but unfortunately I’m pressed for time, so I will show them at a later date.

Previously, I mentioned the addition of Rival Female Cougars. To prevent them from spawning on the map, you’ll have to take care of your territory (If you are not ready to constantly defend it), this means you’ll have to go to special trees on the map, one tree located in each area and mark them. there are three ways you can mark your territory

  • By Roaring (I know, Cougars can’t roar, but hey it’s a game sooo…)
  • By Peeing (If you watch Animal Documentaries, you’ll know how this works)
  • By Scratching the tree (Cougars actually do this, go check it out 🙂 )

After marking a certain tree, for a period of time, no Rival Female can spawn in the area, but they can spawn in other areas if you’ve not marked those areas.

Wild Horses

I’m not going to write much on this character, but there are screenshots 🙂

Audio and Music

A lot of work has gone into the audio for Untamed:Life of a Cougar (Maybe I can now call myself a sound Engineer lol), new sounds have been added, also a lot of characters have a variety of sounds so that it doesn’t become a pain listening to them.

The forest ambience (Environmental sound) has been upgraded to add to the immersion. I changed the in-game music from the copyrighted magix music maker music to public domain music from some awesome composers Daniel O’Connor and Craig Riley (I don’t have the money to compose custom music).

If you really liked the old music, I have some good news, I’ll upload them to the site at a later date for free downloads.

Localization

During the course of the development, I noticed that part of the user base was from south america, brazil to be precise, so I’ve decided to add multiple languages  because everyone deserves to enjoy the game without having to copy text to google translate 🙂  . Confirmed languages are English, French and Portuguese. Additional Languages include Spanish and Italian (Not Confirmed yet).

That is all I want to say for now, I’ll try my best to be posting regular updates in the lead up to the release date, and I’ll like to say a big thank you to everyone who has contributed in one way or another to helping Untamed reach its current status, you all are awesome.

Have fun and Happy Hunting,

Eugene Onuoha,                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           Developer.

The Journey So Far (Untamed:Life of a Cougar Updates)

Hello Everyone,

Its been a while since I posted an article update on Untamed:Life of a Cougar, the reason being that as a solo developer, I don’t have much time on my hands. so If you want visual updates you can go like my Facebook page .

Graphics

A whole lot of work has been done in this department. better image effects have been added to give the game a realistic look and feel. this involved an overhaul of the map, new trees, plants and other effects. you’ll have to play the game for yourself to truly appreciate the improvements done.

Dead puma

Improved Characters

Improved Textures and Model update

Almost all the characters in Untamed: life of a Cougar have been improved, though I won’t post pictures of all of them, If you’ve been to the gallery and other social network sites associated with Untamed: Life of a Cougar, you’d already have seen various animal improvements that have been posted during #screenshotsaturday .

hunting partyjpg

Bad hunt

The hunter texture was changed from a single party-style attire to a camouflage attire of which there are 4 variations. (Mountain, Meadow, Woods and Forest) for the 4 different type of environments on the map. The bloodhounds were also given a variety of textures which can be seen in the image.

The Moose, Bison and Doe models were changed to better ones with way better animations courtesy of 4toon Studio.

Bison vs Cougar

New Characters

Several New Characters have been added in Untamed:Life of a Cougar, they are; Wild Horse, Wild Boar and Rival Female Cougar.

The horses move in herds while the boar is elusive, each of them have unique behaviors. The rival female as its name states will challenge you for your territory.

bear vs boar

Game Mechanics

Over time, I’ve gotten feedback from the community on ways to improve Untamed:Life of a Cougar and bug reports, and I’ve implemented those changes, and we’ll be looking at some of them;

Stalking and Stealth System

The stealth system has been overhauled and the new one is better and without bugs. the player will have to choose his/her style of hunting prey.

night hunt

Deer Hunting

Steep Hills and Invincible Walls

I got complaints about the inability of the player to climb steep slopes while they can walk down steep slopes, it created confusion if it was a bug or not. It wasn’t a bug, rather it was a badly implemented feature but it has now been changed, walk up slopes as you like but you will slide down in style 🙂 .

Improved Animations and Extra Animations

The player animations have been improved to look good on the eyes, the running, stalking, pouncing, paw swipe, trotting, dragging, resting, turning and sprinting animations have been made to look like that of a real feline. Also turning animations for the player (when running and sprinting) have been added making the player movement more cat-like.

Several Attacking animations have been added to the player, making combat feel less mono-tonic..

A lot of other systems and have been improved and updated and I’ll talk more about them in future posts.

Conclusion and Announcement

The  release date for Untamed:Life of a Cougar will be announced on 25th July, 2015.

I’ve been working extremely hard to make sure that my dream, and the dream of several gamers sees the light of day, and I’m happy as that dream is being realized gradually. Thanks to everyone who has contributed in one way or another to the making of Untamed: Life of a Cougar, you guys are all awesome.

Have fun and Happy Hunting.

Visual Improvements on Untamed:Life of a Cougar

As we draw nearer to the announcement of a final release date for Untamed:Life of a Cougar, features to be expected and improvements should be shared with the community.

As I am pressed for time (need to get back to development), this will be an incredibly short post, but hey there are pictures!

There have been stunning visual improvements in Untamed:Life of a Cougar, the grass looks real, a lot of NPCs have been completely overhauled while new ones have been added.

Also in the sound department, animals don’t have a single set of sounds but multiple sets to make the environment much more dynamic.

A new camera mode has been added, to give a somewhat up-close and personal view of the Cougar and makes you feel like you’re watching Nat Geo Wild when you’re hunting with the target mode on.

well as I said this will be a very short post because of lack of time, and there are so much other features that have been added, but little-by-little it will be shared with you.

Untamed beta 3.0 upgraded to Untamed beta 3.0.1

This post is to help address the issue of the upgrade of Untamed: Life of a Cougar beta v3.0 to v3.0.1

In the beta 3.0, there was a bug which prevented the cubs from loading after the game was saved and this was considered a game breaking bug.

In the v3.0.1, this has been fixed now you can save your game and be sure you will see your cubs when you come back.

Sorry for the inconvenience and I hope you have fun with the game.

Untamed: Life o a Cougar beta 3.0 Available + Release Note

It has been quite a journey but finally Untamed: Life of a Cougar beta 3.0 has been released. this will be the last open beta version that will be publicly made available till the final game release.

For everyone that has contributed to the development of Untamed: Life of a Cougar, I will like to say a big thank you.

Untamed beta 3.0 brings with it various new features, optimizations, improvements and well new bugs, so let us start with the new features.

Major Features of Untamed beta 3.0

  • New Terrain: Goodbye old plain terrain, and welcome new mountainous, harder to navigate, better looking terrain.
  • New Born Cubs: They are so small that they can’t run and will put you on alert mode when taking them to a new den.
  • Adolescent Cubs: Like teenagers, these cubs roam away from the den if there is no food around to try their little claws at hunting and making you concerned about their safety in the process, but they don’t care either way.
  • Male Cougars (Mates): These males are ready to take on a mountain for your sake…that is before you have cubs.
  • Male Cougars (Cub Killers): Like the name suggests, you will end up hating this character and maybe the developer that put it there (Hopefully not).
  • Primary Game Cycle: The basic cycle of the untamed and also its main focus point.
  • Player Upgrades: The player now earns skill points from killing other characters and raising cubs.
  • Settings improvement: Although not much, a basic volume slider has been added to give the payer more control over the game audio.
  • Improved Tutorial Terrain: The tutorial terrain is no more bland as it used to be but now better looking.

Improvements in 3.0

There are a lot of improvements in Untamed beta 3.0, but I cannot go into all of them as they will just fill this post with programming jargon which is quite boring, so I will go into some of the more interesting ones

  • Swimming: Yes you can now swim without fear of the unknown and it also comes with a free swimming animation ( 🙂 ) . The river can also serve as your ally when crossing it to escape from danger.
  • Camera: Although the camera has not been fully improved (yes it is that hard), a lot of jitters that comes with various player movements like strafing, pouncing and jumping have been removed for now. major improvements will be made after the final release.
  • Jumping: After receiving a lot of complaints on the jumping in Untamed, I’m glad to announce that it has been largely improved and it also looks better on the eye (it also came with a free bug) .

Known Bugs

  • The Player can fall through the terrain at anytime, this happens mostly around steep hills….beware of steep hills.
  • The Jumping animation always plays after resuming the game, exiting a message screen, and also exiting the map, please try to live with it…you may just like it someday an also it does not cause any harm to gameplay.

So these are the basic things you can see in Untamed beta 3.0, if you have played the previous beta versions, then you will appreciate the v3.0 because honestly a lot has been put into this release.

Untamed: Life of a Cougar beta 3.0 (Release Date)

It has been quite a while since the release of Untamed:Life of a Cougar beta 2.0, and since then, a lot of work has gone into Untamed beta 3.0.

I’m Happy to announce that Untamed beta 3.0 will be available for download on Monday 9, March 2015.

The release of Untamed beta would have been out sooner had the decision not been taken to carry out an overhaul of the terrain, yes that’s right, in Untamed: Life of a Cougar beta 3.0, you’ll be playing in a different map with much better resolution and ambiance. Best thing of all, the terrain will be improved much further before the final release.

screen3

There has also been a lot of bug fixes and performance optimizations to give the best experience while playing untamed. one of the optimizations done is the dragging of ‘ragdolls’, in Untamed beta 2.0, there is the problem of lag after a time while dragging a ragdoll or your cub, now that has been fixed to ensure a smooth experience.

screen 4

Another highlight of Untamed beta 3.0 is the game balancing, along the course of development, there were complaints on the immense difficulty of the hunters and various elements in the game, majority of these balancing issues have been fixed to prevent undue frustration of players.

And last but not least, your cubs will be able to complete their growth cycle, yes you read it right. There will be 3 cubs that will grow into adolescents and stay with you until they learn to hunt.

The Journey to raise the cubs will not be easy, but hey it isn’t easy for real Cougars in the wild and that is what Untamed: Life of a Cougar is all about 🙂 .

If you want keep up to date, you can subscribe for the Untamed news letter where you will be sent only important updates or you can like Untamed’s Facebook page to encourage and support the developer.

Here’s one more image of the environment for your eyes.
